Process notes

How this part is machined

Gear racks convert rotary motion into linear movement and are used in adjustment units, sliding mechanisms and hardware fittings. Stainless steel 304 is chosen where the rack is exposed to moisture or cleaning agents.

The rack blank is milled square, then teeth are cut along the full length in one setup. End holes and slots are added after tooth cutting, and the finished rack is passivated to restore corrosion resistance.

Machining points

Process measures behind the tolerance

  1. 01Tooth pitch held along the lengthTeeth are cut in one pass along the full rack, then checked at both ends so pitch error does not build up.
  2. 02Straightness after machiningLong racks are supported on a fixture during milling and checked on a surface plate before packing.
