Process notes

How this part is machined

The forehead thermometer housing holds the sensor, display and battery in a handheld body, so the shell must be light, stiff and clean to the touch. Aluminum alloy is chosen for these covers because it machines to a thin wall and anodizes to a durable finish.

The housing is milled from 6061-T6 billet. The cavity is roughened first, the part is released and left to relax, then the window, bores and sealing faces are finished in the last setup. After deburring and cleaning, the housing is anodized in the requested colour, and each unit is checked for wall thickness and window position.

Machining points

Process measures behind the tolerance

  1. 01Thin wall without distortionRough milling is followed by a release from the clamp and a short pause, then finishing passes are taken in stages to keep the wall flat.
  2. 02Colour consistency in one batchParts for the same order are anodized in a single run so the colour stays within one shade.
