Machining details

A stamping line needed a matched pair of edge-forming die blocks to hold the blank flat while the punch forms the edge. The previous blocks had worn at the forming radius and no longer closed evenly, which left a wave along the flange.

Both blocks were milled from Cr12 plate as a matched pair, with the cavity and the locating bores cut in the same clamping so the two halves stay symmetrical. After vacuum quenching to HRC 58-62, the forming faces were ground to ±0.01 mm and checked against each other on a surface plate.

The pair was delivered as a set in 16 working days with a hardness record and a face flatness report. Rework is limited to regrinding the forming face, so the customer keeps the same pair in service instead of replacing both blocks.
